Pregnancy & Skin

There are a number of skin changes that can occur during pregnancy. Common changes, such as stretch marks, darkening of existing moles and a vertical brown streak crossing the belly button. Some less common changes, such as melasma, acne, worsening eczema and worsening psoriasis can be cosmetically troubling, and may benefit from treatment.

Some skin problems are caused by the pregnancy itself, and generally disappear once the baby is born. These may present as severely itchy bumps on the abdomen, particularly in the latter half of pregnancy; as blisters in the initial stages of pregnancy, or as very itchy hands and feet.

These skin problems need urgent attention, because they may indicate underlying medical problems that need to be addressed.

If you have a skin problem and you are currently pregnant, our Obstetric Dermatologists will guide you towards a treatment plan that is suitable for you at all stages of your pregnancy, and safe for you and your baby.

The Dermatologists at Hunter Coast Dermatology & Laser understand that pregnancy is an anxiety provoking time and are happy to prioritise pregnant women with urgent concerns.
