Injectable Fillers

What are injectable fillers and how can they help?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural product in the skin that has the capacity to hold water and therefore creates a ‘plumpness’ to the skin. As we get older, the amount of hyaluronic acid reduces and so does its water-holding capacity. Hyaluronic acid fillers are safer and better tolerated than other types of fillers, such as collagen, and therefore don’t require allergy testing before use.

Fillers are used to plump up or create volume in certain areas of the face, such as the cheeks and lips. Fillers are often used in conjunction with botulinum toxin injections, which are used to relax muscles that contribute to fine lines and wrinkles.

Fillers can also be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that are permanently formed, in cases where used botulinum toxin may not be beneficial.

Are injectable fillers right for me?

A pre-assessment is an essential part of deciding whether injectable fillers are right for you. In general injectable fillers can help with a variety of cosmetic and age-related concerns:

  • Lip shaping: definition, plumping, and elevating down turning mouth corners

  • Nasolabial and labio-mental lines (lines that come from the nose to the corners of the mouth and the mouth down to the chin)

  • Glabellar lines (vertical frown lines between the eyebrows)

  • Horizontal forehead lines

  • Crow’s feet

  • Shaping the cheek bones

  • Shaping of the jaw line

  • Reducing defects caused by acne, surgery or trauma

What does the process involve?

At your initial consultation we will establish what your treatment goals are, take a thorough medical history and perform an examination of the area you would like treated. At this appointment, you will also be able to discuss alternative options, cost of treatment and potential risks associated with your treatment.
