Laser & Light Treatments

What types of skin problems can lasers treat?

HCDL has lasers that can help with a range of skin conditions including facial redness and rosacea, unwanted blood vessels (broken capillaries, telangiectasias, spider nevi and venous lakes), pigmentation such as age spot and sun freckles, skin rejuvenation for fine lines and wrinkle, improved skin tone and texture, acne and acne scarring. Most laser treatments involve a course of treatments to achieve maximum benefit.

Laser Treatment for Pigmentation and Sun Damage

Unwanted pigmentation, brown spots, freckles and sun damage are very common in a sunny country such as Australia where we enjoy outdoor activities for most of the year. These common skin concern can be improved with a combination of therapies. Sun protection and avoiding peak UV radiation are essential. Medical treatments include chemical peels, prescription creams or lotions and laser or light based therapies

At HCDL we have a range of laser and energy-based devices for treating pigmentation and sun damage. These include the Cutera excel V+ and Lutronic eCO2 Laser. At HCDL all laser or light-based therapies are performed or directly supervised by your treating dermatologist.

Laser Treatment for Rosacea, Redness and Blood Vessels

Laser treatments for rosacea, redness and unwanted blood vessels have developed and improved dramatically in the last 20 years. The goal of treating these very common skin concerns is to selectively target, heat and destroy the unwanted blood vessels while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.

At HCDL we have the  Cutera excel V+ laser device. This is the latest generation laser technology for vascular and pigmentation concerns. It was designed with input from leading dermatologists and has superior power and performance in treating vascular and pigment concerns. The excel V+ has a combination of two clinically proven wavelengths (532/1064nm) which treats the widest range of vascular concerns – superficial to deep. It has an in-built cooling system for superior comfort and safety. Discuss with your dermatologist further if you have vascular concerns you would like to address. At HCDL all laser or light-based therapies are performed or directly supervised by your treating dermatologist.

At HCDL we understand that some patients want to delay or avoid taking tablets for their acne, or maximise successful acne treatment with additional therapies. That is why we offer a range of laser and light based therapies.

If you want to explore what laser or light based therapies are available to help treat your acne or acne scarring make an appointment with one of our dermatologists to discuss your goals further.

There are many different lasers that can help with skin rejuvenation. In a broad sense they can be thought of in two categories – those that don’t break the surface of the skin (non-ablative lasers) and those that cause controlled damage to the upper and lower layers of skin (ablative lasers). The goal of rejuvenative lasers is to:

  • Promote collagen remodelling and new collagen formation that helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Improve surface pigmentation (brown spots)

  • Improve redness and capillaries

  • Promote a healthy skin tone, complexion and texture

  • Reduce dull and tired appearance of skin

How do lasers work?

Lasers deliver energy to the skin to target specific structures such as blood vessels, pigment or collagen. By delivering this energy, lasers help reduce the appearance of unwanted skin blemishes such as redness, small blood vessels, and brown marks. Lasers also promote collagen formation which helps reduce the signs of fine lines and wrinkles and promotes a healthy skin tone.

What are the aims of laser treatment?

The aim of laser therapy is to target and remove the area of concern while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. It is important that you choose a laser practitioner who is highly trained in laser devices and understands how to harness the power of lasers to deliver optimal outcomes.

What will my consultation involve?

During your initial consultation at HCDL, your individual goals for your skin will be discussed.

Your dermatologist will analyse your skin and discuss with you the laser device that best matches your concerns. If you have a variety of skin goals, a combination of laser therapies may selected to optimise your outcome, or your laser may be combined with medical therapy.

It is important to undergo an initial consultation so that the right treatment plan can be formed to safely and effectively achieve your desired outcomes. At HCDL all laser or light-based therapies are performed or directly supervised by your treating dermatologist.

What laser technology does HCDL use?

We use the latest Laser & Light Technology. At HCDL we have a range of lasers/lights for skin rejuvenation and targeting a wide variety of skin concerns.

As part of your consultation your dermatologist will discuss your skin concerns and tailor laser treatment specifically to your needs. At HCDL all laser or light services are performed or directly supervised by your treating dermatologist.
